Art at the Preparatory School

At the Preparatory School we believe that Art is a subject for everyone. We enjoy a range of specialist facilities including purpose-built art rooms, a textile studio, a ceramics kiln and a kiln for fusing glass.

We embrace the foundation skills of drawing alongside a wide range of mixed media opportunities. Pupils experience a wide and varied art curriculum that aims to build a passion for the subject in both 2D and 3D.

In Years 3 and 4, pupils follow the creative curriculum. Art is used as a vehicle to aid the learning of all pupils through all their subject areas. Year 3 and 4 work towards a beautiful art exhibit of their own at the end of their topics.

Through Year 5 to Year 8, pupils are taught by specialist teachers. Pupils are encouraged, helped and inspired to use academic art processes whilst fostering their natural creativity and independent thinking. Our aim is to establish the desire for young individuals to think of where art could take them in the future and develop their passion for the subject.

All year groups take part in group and individual work. They utilise a sketch book as a place to document visual learning, as well as creating larger scale pieces.

The walls around the School are adorned with beautiful creations that the pupils take pride in displaying within our school community. We also enjoy exhibiting to the wider public in a variety of different spaces.
